'Established
in 1989, College Proteins processes animal wastes into meat meal,
bone meal and tallow. In 1992 as part of its investment programme
the company installed an ultra-modern continuous rotating cooker
with variable speed drive feed controls. Hoppers were installed
after each of the four processing stages (crushing, cooking, oil
extraction and milling) to provide buffer storage.
These
investments improved production, product quality, and energy usage
and made possible further savings through efficient tariff management.
Controls ensure that only one other processing stage can operate
when the cooker is running. This has minimised Maximum Demand
especially in Winter months when the company can avail of ESB's
Winter Demand Reduction Incentive.
